Bands apply to chargeable income after Jamaica's annual tax-free threshold (a deduction, not a rate band) is subtracted; that threshold currently stands at JMD 1,902,360 per year, effective 1 April 2026.

Jamaica taxes resident individuals at 25% on chargeable income up to JMD 6 million per year (after the annual tax-free threshold), and 30% on the excess above that. Income tax is imposed only at the national level, not locally.

The annual turnover GCT registration threshold is JMD 15 million, increased from JMD 10 million with effect from 1 April 2025.

Exemptions

Items exempt from GCT include a range of basic food items, prescription drugs, certain medical supplies, and certain construction, transportation, and financial and insurance services. Zero-rated goods and services include certain agricultural and fisheries inputs, exported goods and services, and purchases by diplomatic and international organisations and foreign governments.

Capital Gains Tax

There is no tax on capital gains in Jamaica. Asset transfers are instead subject to a separate transfer tax on the gross consideration and, for share transfers, stamp duty.

Wealth Tax

No net wealth/worth tax levied. Jamaica's Individual - Other taxes page on PWC has no dedicated net wealth/worth taxes subsection (covers social security, consumption tax, property tax, transfer tax and stamp duty instead); PWC's consolidated cross-country quick chart lists Jamaica as "NA" (not applicable).
