Progressive rates apply to salary, professional, and business income remaining after the standard allowances under the Income Tax Law; a full exemption applies where a person's annual salary does not exceed MMK 4,800,000. Figures are taken from an English convenience translation of the law rather than the original Myanmar-language text.
Myanmar taxes resident nationals and resident foreigners on a progressive scale from 1% to 25% on both salary and other income, with personal tax relief available on salary income. Non-resident foreigners are instead taxed at a flat 25% on other income.
Capital Gains Tax
Myanmar taxes capital gains for both residents and nonresidents at a flat rate of 10% on gains from the sale, exchange or transfer of capital assets, including shares, bonds and similar instruments.
In practice
- Exemptions
