Notes & in practice
Income Tax
Chad taxes individuals' work income (salaries, wages, business, and similar income) on a progressive scale topping out at 30% above XAF 12,000,000. Capital income, including capital gains, rental, and dividend income, is instead taxed separately at proportional rates of up to 25%.
VAT
A reduced 9% rate applies to certain local products. Exports and select agri-food products are zero-rated.
In practice
- Exemptions
Beyond the reduced and zero VAT rates, Chad's VAT law separately exempts direct sales by farmers, cattle farmers and fishermen, the import and sale of newspapers and periodicals (excluding advertising revenue), leasing transactions, sales of gas oil and petrol by the N'Djamena refining company, and the acquisition of renewable-energy equipment and its financing.
